Sublimation fabric
Unfortunately, not everything is perfect in the world of sublimation. The technique is only possible on fabrics that contain polyester or products that have received a polyester-based treatment.
The higher the percentage of polyester in the product, the more vivid the colors of the print will be. There are three categories of fabrics for sublimation: PP Mesh (100% polyester), PV Mesh (67% polyester and 33% viscose) and PA Mesh (50% polyester and 50% cotton).
You may even ask yourself: “isn’t it possible to print on cotton?” No, the print does transfer to the fabric, but with a more opaque color and ends up coming off after a few washes.
Other important points about fabric:
Working with fabric is very delicate and if you want to have a quality result, you need to buy the right fabric and work very carefully so as not to damage it.
Look for fabrics with at least 60% polyester, as the more polyester, the better the result will be in your sublimation.
Here is a list of fabrics you can use:
- Polyester + Cotton
- Polyester + PET (this one is eco-friendly, but the quality is lower)
- Polyester + Elastane
- Polyester Lycra
- Polyester + Viscose
It is worth mentioning that the most ideal and recommended thing to do is to press the shirt alone before pressing it with the sublimation sheet. This way you will not run the risk of the image being shadowed, as the fabric will already be a little warm.
